The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. The wooden frame includes a hanging wire for easy mounting on your wall (see photo on the left).

The stairs leading to Memorial Hall inside Bancroft Hall, the largest dormitory in the world, located at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. A replica of the historic battle flag with the words "Don't Give Up the Ship" is on display in Memorial Hall and can be seen through the doorway at the top of stairs.
